Bomb Threat...

An especially exciting Wednesday. A ticking package shut down the offices and the classroom building for an hour or two. As you can see above, the police blocked off the road and the helicopter kept circling. The bomb squad finally opened it and discovered... a metronome! The girl in the red is my friend whom it was for. Hahaha, funny day. We got to have class at a coffee shop after some deliberation... so good does come from bad :)

Hiking

Just another plus SoCal has to offer!!! Absolutely incredible scenery, especially at sunset.

Santa Monica Beach Day!!!

Kite flying, sand castle competition, swimming, walking the pier... what more could you ask for? This college is incredible!

First Avodah - LA Tour

We saw a ton of really cool stuff, including the oldest house in LA, Olvera street (I ended up buying one of the mini guitars), Chinatown, a huge Cathedral, the Disney Concert Hall and the Capitol building, as well as some grafiti and homeless people... I had taquitos for lunch - mmmmm! It is so accessible from campus, I want to go back sometime, whenever I find someone willing to hit the metro with me on a Saturday :)

Broomball!

An old Providence favorite at a new location! Our teams were closely matched so it was a very fun time - I actually got a few good shots!

Moving In

Back in Cali! I arrived Saturday and we had Student Senate meetings until Monday when everyone else came. During the SS retreat we also had Fosselman's famous ice cream, so that was fun! When everyone else came and I had my roomie settled with me, there was a bbq that night and an ice cream social later. It was so good to see everyone again and meet some smiling new faces!!!

River Ridge

A fantastic last camping trip of the summer with my family. We were parked right next to the river so we had some great fun playing and fishing in it. Andrew was the only one who caught anything though. Beyond kites, swimming and smores, clams, hamburgers, and popcorn, the water trampoline, kayaking and wading in the river, what more could one want? :) Great end to a great vacation.

Cran Hill

It's that time at last - the annual Cran Hill camping trip. This year it was us and one more family from Church. We rode horses, flew kites, swam, went boating, ate ice cream, roasted marshmallows and went on the wagon ride. It was a good trip, excellent weather too (until we had to pack up of course). As it has been since my childhood, Cran Hill is a highlight of my summer!

The 4th

After encouragement from a friend I have decided to resume my blog without catching up, here we start at the fourth of July, my first as a voting citizen! We had a swimming party and enjoyed the city's fireworks afterwards. It was a hot day, but the pool kept it managable :)

Getty Day (Ballroom Dance at Night)

The Getty Art museum was a really neat trip. The museum is huge and we hardly scratched the surface. We took pictures in the gardens and got to see the French Impressionistic and Medieval displays. We had lunch there imbetween the exibits and the gardens. After we returned from the Getty, the Ballroom Dance Club members (including me) set up for our dance, where we taught swing, waltz and salsa to rest of the campus. It was a fun night!

Grand Canyon!!!

On the way back we got to see a sight I have wanted to for a long time - the Grand Canyon! It was beautiful! It is a long way down, so I can see why it made Mom so nervous, but it was really a neat sight to behold. Just another adventure I can add to my list of "amazing things I've seen and done this year".

The Work Week

What a full work week! We started out the week painting four rooms and the hallway of the guest dorms. With all eight of us working it took us only two days to do both coats! After that we demolished an old greenhouse, filled in potholes, and cleaned the gutters along the street for the rest of the week. We got a lot accomplished and it was nice to be able to see a change after our labors!

Rehoboth Day One

Over Spring break I went on a service trip to the School in Rehoboth, NM. Day One was a long day of driving to get from CA to where we were serving. We stopped at a sweet little Cafe on Route 66 and I had a buffalo burger. As we got closer, it began to be more snowy. We finally arrived late at night at our destination safely.
